River Birkin

Location
Bowdon, Cheshire

Description
This little river or brook runs parallel with the River Bollin. Starting at the big lake in Tatton Park and joining the River Bollin at Bowden. Mainly a game river the Birkin contains some really good Trout both brown and rainbow. Although Dunham Massey Angling Club only have a short stretch of this river and it doesn’t lend itself easily to casting a fly, I think it’s worth having ago. I have seen some large shoals of Dace darting about in the shallows and some large Trout moving out of the cover along the far side.

Fish Details
Dace, Chub, Trout.

Tactics
When the water is low in summer try wading and flicking a fly towards some of the overhanging trees that cover the deeper holes or put a worm through some of the swims and trot downstream, sooner or later you will be into the trout or even some of the Chub that rest up in the Birkin.
